Full-Stack Software Engineer

Software from idea to production.

I turn business requirements into maintainable software, working closely with customers and teams.

Success stories

Take ownership.
Create value.

Real problems, my approach and the results.

Success / 01

Improve quality

A shared understanding of software quality

A focus on testability, ease of change and architecture

Team | Knowledge sharing

Building a shared understanding of software quality

  1. 01

The team lacked a shared understanding of quality. Mixing different kinds of logic in large service methods made testing and changes difficult.

  2. 02

In internal talks, I explained object-oriented principles, composition and clearly separated application layers, alongside data processing with RxJS operators.

  3. 03

Team members reported a clearer understanding of software that is easy to test and change, and greater confidence in using RxJS.

Takeaway

Good software is a team effort. For me, technical leadership also means sharing knowledge, enabling others to make informed decisions and building team ownership of those decisions.

Success / 02

Confidential content

Protected by role-based access

Configurable for each customer

Authorisation | Architecture

Enforcing customer-specific access rules centrally

  1. 01

Caregivers, analysts and patients need different access rights to confidential content in a healthcare platform. Rules must be configurable per customer, and changes must take effect immediately.

  2. 02

I built the authorisation logic centrally on the server. Web and mobile clients use the actions allowed by the server, keeping rules consistent and avoiding duplicate maintenance.

  3. 03

Customer-specific access rules are enforced centrally. Changes take effect immediately on web and mobile, without a new app version or app store approval.

Takeaway

Understanding business needs and thinking them through helps translate them into the right technical solution. This creates value for stakeholders and a clean, maintainable foundation for engineering.

Success / 03

100+

Participants

In public online courses

Integration | Architecture

Integrating video conferencing providers with a modular design

  1. 01

A digital healthcare platform needed to integrate several video conferencing providers with different APIs and authentication methods.

  2. 02

I worked directly with the providers and independently implemented the integrations. The modular architecture makes it easy to add providers and activate them through configuration.

  3. 03

The platform enabled medical consultations and public online courses with over 100 participants; more providers can be added with little effort.

Takeaway

Clean architecture and thinking ahead pay off in stability and maintainability. Additional video conferencing providers can be integrated with little effort without disrupting existing integrations.

Success / 04

Performance+

A fraction of the original runtime

Through parallel processing

Performance | Analysis

Finding vehicle data in a fraction of the time

  1. 01

The customer waited too long for vehicle data: searches by vehicle identification number queried several systems sequentially.

  2. 02

I identified the sequential search as the bottleneck, parallelised it with Fork/Join and combined the results.

  3. 03

The customer received the requested vehicle data in a fraction of the original waiting time.

Takeaway

A system can work correctly and still frustrate its users. Excellent quality also means considering the user experience from the start.

Professional experience

Around seven years of engineering in complex domains.

From international automotive software to medical applications, I have developed and supported systems in production over several years. I care about how business needs, architecture, implementation and operations fit together.

Software Engineer · E-Health

Zentrum für Telemedizin (ZTM)

Full-stack development of an e-health platform for web, iOS and Android.

  • Shared responsibility for cloud and on-premises releases and production support; acted as the technical liaison between development, operations and domain experts. The platform was used in studies with several hundred participants.
  • Introduced code reviews and gave internal talks on Clean Code, RxJS and maintainable software development.
02 2022

Software Engineer · Medical software

Apoplex Medical Technologies GmbH

Development of medical software.

  • Developed an ECG analysis microservice with a frontend built on Web Components.
03 2017–2022

Software Engineer · Automotive

Novatec Consulting GmbH

Full-stack and DevOps engineering for international automotive projects, working directly with customers.

  • Promoted Domain-Driven Design and shared responsibility for the customer’s first successful agile project.
  • Took over an existing customer project from another service provider and independently continued its development, delivery and production operation.
  • Built and operated a Spring Boot service exposing vehicle data from Excel through a REST API.

How I work

My guiding principles.

01

Problem before technology

I question requirements and consider the people who use the system. Business needs guide the technical solution.

02

Causes, not symptoms

I break complex problems into manageable parts and investigate their causes across system boundaries. This leads to clear, testable solutions.

03

Ownership across system boundaries

User interfaces, business logic, data and infrastructure belong together. I see solutions through from implementation to running them in production.

04

Collaboration, not blame

I share knowledge, explain decisions and learn from mistakes with the team. This helps us make informed decisions and take shared ownership of our solutions.

Beyond the Job

My interest in software goes beyond my day job.

Personal projects give me room to explore technologies and make my own decisions. After launch, I keep improving them through user feedback and experience from running them.

PlayOnDlna

Open-source Android app for DLNA streaming

I built PlayOnDlna to meet a personal need: a released open-source app that prepares media for different DLNA devices and controls playback. I manage releases and continue developing it in direct collaboration with users, addressing issues that only arise on real devices and networks.

How is AI changing software engineering?

LLMs and coding agents are changing how software is built. Through personal experiments, I explore which tasks can be delegated effectively and where human engineering judgement remains essential.

I explore agentic workflows and tool use for codebase analysis, implementation, debugging and reviews. My focus is making this a reliable engineering process while retaining architectural understanding, domain-specific decision-making and responsibility.

Personal technical exploration outside my professional work to date.

Technology matters. There is more to life.

Family, nature, community involvement and time on my mountain bike are also part of my life. My partner, our three children and I support local conservation, participate in community-supported agriculture and are involved in a mountain biking club that helps develop sustainable trails.
